Memorial Day

Today we headed to the Centerville Cemetery to visit Grandma and Grandpa Argyle’s and Great-grandma and Grandpa Adams’ grave for Memorial Day. It was beautiful to see flowers everywhere and families picnicking together. We shared with Carter our favorite memories of Grandma and Grandpa Argyle. Mine in particular were the many Fourth of July and Christmas Eve holidays spent in their home. After we roamed around the cemetery looking at all the other ancestors buried there.

When we left we headed to Antelope Island. We had never been there before and we had the BEST time. It was too much fun! Carter absolutely loved the water. It’s like it was made for his little feet to run in; the water was only a few inches deep. The beaches were flat and wide open so he could run as long and as far as he wanted. We also brought my surfboard along so that we could send a picture to “Free to Ride” surf shop in Capitola. They said they would put it up in their shop and that they didn’t have a picture from the Salt Lake. At one point, Carter got stuck in some mud and loved playing with it. It was the greyest, smelliest mud I’ve ever seen/smelled. Of course, he had to put it in his mouth and let’s just say better out than in. After we left the beach we drove around the island and saw the bison that live there. We had a great day together as a family.

The flag represents grandpa serving in WWII.

I didn't know John Adams served  in the military...so now I have something to investigate.

Carter ran right into the water...

Carter got a taste of the salt water.
"Hi Mommy!"

To the Pacific Ocean with love, the Great Salt Lake.

That's the stinky mud.

Just ate the mud...I won't post a picture of what happened next. I promise I couldn't stop  him.

So happy to be free and dirty.

Sophia's 2nd Birthday Party

We have had a full Saturday and really enjoyed it. We went to Sophia's 2nd birthday party at the Gateway Discovery Museum. The kids got to jump around to music, play with balloons, color, dress-up, eat cake, watch Sophia open presents and play down in the museum after. Carter is sleeping like a rock right now! I loved the colors of the room provided, they were so bright and fun. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOPHIA!

Getting ready to play...and watching the balloons fall to the ground.
Sophia absolutely loved the balloons and jumping around.
Daddy teaching Carter how to color.
Isn't the room fun? The kids were playing a game where they couldn't let the balloons touch the ground.
Carter discovered a little boy outside the room. He was the only boy at the party...although I think he secretly loved it.
He was having so much fun pulling the balloons with helium down.
The girls got to dress up at princesses...
So of course they needed their knight in shining armor.

Ready for battle!
Sophia opening up her presents from Carter. He gave her some things to keep her entertained at church.
Just love the colors!
This is my favorite picture of Sophia for the day. She just got this  tiara and purse as a gift.
The whole group!
This is too funny. The workers just wheeled this in  to load it up with Sophia's presents etc. It didn't take Carter but a minute to climb right in and claim it.

Pouring Rain...

Today Tanner, Carter and I visited a couple of graves for Memorial Day weekend. We are planning to go to Centerville on Monday to visit grandma and grandpa Argyle's graves, but today we made it to two graves that I thought could use some attention. We got lost finding both cemeteries because it was pouring down rain, but it was a great adventure. Carter got to witness a thunder and lightening storm.

We first went to Josephine Argyle's grave in Bountiful. She was my grandpa Argyle's mother and is buried alone in the cemetery. I thought she could use some attention so we brought her some pink (girl) flowers. After we went to the Salt Lake City Cemetery to visit Sarah Frost. I love Sarah and find her story both tragic and inspiring. She is buried next to her son, but all of her other children lived and died elsewhere and she never remarried after her husband left their family. We put yellow flowers at her grave so that she could be easily seen to those that pass her.

It was a fun outing for the morning. This afternoon we will attend a birthday party for Carter's friend Sophia. More pictures to follow!

Carter had gotten to know these cemeteries well.

So fun!

Okay, photoshop arrived today and I am in love! I am working on learning all the tricks and am still waiting on the book I ordered, but I wanted to post a picture that I played around with for a bit. I told Tanner I felt a little guilty doing any editing on Carter's face because I think he is perfect, but we both agree that he is the most fun subject to practice on.

Last California Post

What a perfect last day to our time in California; a beautiful day at the beach. Carter, Tanner and I went with Grandma Edvenson to Capitola Beach and the Hook. Tanner and I got to visit our old surf spots and Carter got to play in the water.

After the beach we met up with Clyde, Jake, Lindsey and Ryan at Christmas Hill Park and had dinner at Fresh Choice. Needless to say, Carter slept really well that night. We had a wonderful time in California and wish we could have brought the ocean back with us!

"Hey mom, I love the beach!"
Walking on the beach with grandma.
Checking out the Hook. We saw a couple of whales not too far off shore!
